Friday, October 10, 2003

Meg Munn, Labour & Co-operative MP for Sheffield Heeley constituency has been chosen by her local party to stand at the next General Election.

Local members of the Labour Party and affiliated organisations have backed Meg as their candidate for the next election.

Cllr John Robson, Labour's Press Officer said "We are delighted to offer our support to Meg, she has been a strong constituency MP, always promoting the interests of local people, communities and business, both here and in Westminster. Residents of Sheffield Heeley were very pleased that the advances in education in Sheffield have been recognised by the appointment of Meg to a job in the Department for Education & Skills. Whenever the election comes, I know that the local voters will support her campaign to represent their interests in Parliament for a further term."

Speaking after the announcement Meg said

"It is a privilege to represent the people of Heeley in Parliament. I thank the local Labour Party and Trade Unions for supporting my application to stand again for Labour at the next general election. In the meantime I will continue to work hard on behalf of all my constituents taking up the issues that concern them and ensuring that they are heard in parliament."

Meg was elected at the June 2001 General Election with a majority of over 11,700, over the Lib Dems.
