Helping Mothers back to Work

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Many mothers find that it is often very difficult to return to work after having children. The Women’s Business Council have found that good planning by mothers combined with support from the workplace are the most significant factors in whether they do return to work.

Recently Meg Munn MP visited Women to Work, an organisation which tackles these issues head on. They are a new social enterprise in the city, set up to help individual women with children find flexible and fulfilling work, and help organisations create sustainable employment for female talent.

Meg met the founders, Emma Shute and Jenny Pollock, to hear more about how they are helping working mums. They told Meg how they aim to help women regain their confidence to return to work. The enterprise also work with women in employment, and those wanting to start their own business - through workshops, coaching sessions, a business club and online resources.

Meg has long held that the business case for having more gender balanced organisations is proven, with a strong link between diversity and business profitability.

Emma and Jenny are keen to reach as many people as possible and offer free coaching sessions see their website for details.

Meg said:

“I support the work Emma and Jenny are doing in Sheffield and I urge women to take a look at the help they can offer. It’s good to hear they are working with business to champion local women.

I hope Sheffield will lead the way in showing that the most successful businesses are the most diverse.”
