Women at the Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering
Thursday, March 12, 2015
Meg Munn MP recently met the Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WiSET) team at Sheffield Hallam University to be briefed on their activities.
She was interested to hear of the teams’ plans for the Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering, which takes place from 11–22 March to celebrate British Science Week. As part of a packed programme of events WiSET will be hosting a panel of women who work and study in jobs and careers not traditionally associated with girls and women. Young women will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore how they can come to believe ‘Yes We Can’.
The team work to widen the participation of under-represented groups in science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) and the built environment. WiSET have developed and delivered a wide range of innovative projects, resources, schemes and activities over more than ten years based on gender and occupational segregation at all levels of education and employment.
“I always enjoy catching up with the WiSET team at Hallam and hearing about their exciting plans. They are continuing to make a huge difference in encourage more young girls to think about studying science, engineering and technology subjects.
I would definitely encourage people to go along to some of the interesting events planned for this year’s Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering.”
