Encouraging greater participation in Tennis
Tuesday, March 24, 2015
Meg Munn MP recently met Huw Edwards and Katie Dixon of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to discuss their new strategy. Last year the Association appointed a new Chief Executive, Michael Downey, who has overhauled the organization and the emphasis will now be to encourage greater participation in grass roots tennis.
Meg who is secretary of the Tennis All-Party Parliamentary group, and a keen player herself endorsed this new approach. In parliament she has held debates and argued for greater investment from the LTA at local level.
"Of course it is fantastic when a British player does well at Wimbledon, but above all tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed and played at all ages. I have long campaigned for barriers to participation to be tackled. This has to mean greater availability of decent courts at prices people can afford and encouragement for children and young people to take up the game through free provision."
