Sum Studios - the heart of the Heeley community
Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Local MP Meg Munn recently joined Heeley Development Trust’s Andy Jackson to see the development at Sum Studios in Heeley.
Sum Studios is a dynamic mix of arts, business and community spaces at the site of the old Anns Grove School. Prior to the development at Sum, the old Anns Grove building had been empty for seven years. Rain damage was significant after lead was stolen from the roofs, and dry rot riddled the bones of the building.
In redeveloping the building the Trust were able to uncover some beautiful period features, such as the pitch pine beams and the curved brick pillars. These features have been retained and revived. Heeley Development Trust’s vision was to open a space that would become home to a thriving, busy community of local residents, professionals and artists and makers.
This is becoming reality and Sum is now home to a diversity of commercial tenants, from digital animators and designers, to marketing professionals and photographers.
“What Heeley Development Trust have done with Sum Studios is nothing short of amazing. It might have taken eight years to get where they are today, but having looked around the building I am sure that it was worth the wait.
I know that Andy and his team at Heeley Development Trust have even more great plans for Heeley but they should be incredibly proud of this fantastic space.”
