Sheffield MP Meg Munn today welcomed the government’s announcement that Sheffield Heeley schools would benefit from extra funding for Sheffield of over £4 million over the next 4 years to enable schools stay open beyond normal school hours.

The money will enable schools to offer high-quality childcare from 8am to 6pm all year round. This will keep children occupied with constructive activities like homework clubs; sport, language and music tuition; clubs such as chess and first aid courses; and business and enterprise activities.

Meg said:

“More and more parents are working hours that aren’t the traditional nine to five. I’m pleased with the announcement which recognises that busy families in Heeley need schools that are more flexible. This money will help make sure that these sports, music and school clubs have more resources to help our children succeed.”

“I’m especially pleased that this money will help local schools invest in programmes like breakfast clubs. I’ve seen first hand the benefits to both parents and children when I visit schools in Heeley.”
