Meg welcomes local pilot to tackle abandoned cars in Sheffield

Tuesday, August 13, 2002

Meg Munn, Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Sheffield Heeley has today welcomed the launch of a special pilot scheme to get abandoned cars off the streets of Sheffield more quickly. The scheme, which covers a big slice of north and east Sheffield, is supported by police, fire and council alike and is precisely the kind of action Meg has been demanding for nearly a year.

Meg said "It is great news that the people of Parson Cross, Burngreave, Shiregreen, Firth Park, Darnall, Attercliffe, Pitsmoor and Southey Green will have cleaner, safer streets, and I look forward to the day when the scheme covers the whole city.

I am delighted that Councillor Harry Harpham has acted so swiftly since I first brought this whole huge area of concern to his attention.

This is a marvellous example of a Labour Government and a Labour Council working together to solve the City’s problems."
