Asking for World Peace

Friday, February 25, 2005

Meg visited Anns Grove School to hear about the progress of building the new school and to meet the children. She was shown around by the headteacher, Ms Smalley and school governor, Andy Jackson. The new school building is being built on an adjacent site and the work is already underway. However, it will be another year before the children are able to move out of their 200 year old buildings into a modern environment.

She asked some children what they would ask Tony Blair to do if they had the chance: one child said ‘to make sure that everyone had a house and enough to eat’, another wanted to ‘stop the pollution in the sea’ and a third asked for world peace!

Meg said “I really enjoyed meeting the children. It’s always good to get their views and to try and see the world through their eyes. I was impressed by the issues they had talked about. It was obvious that the recent tsunami tragedy left a big impression, with the pupils wanting to help children in developing countries. I understand that the school is hoping to form a link with a school in Sri Lanka to help them recover from the tsunami.”
