Campaigning against illegal motorcycling

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Local MP Meg Munn and local councillor Rosemary Telfer are leading a campaign on Gleadless Valley against illegal motorcycling. The campaign demands that the Police and City Council do more to tackle this dangerous menace in the area.

Meg and Rosemary were about on Constable Road and Newfield Green Shops talking to residents about this serious problem. Local people were only too happy to sign a petition demanding more action, with many commenting about the level of nuisance illegal motorcycling causes.

Meg said:

‘A large number of residents on Gleadless Valley have contacted me about the nuisance of illegal motorcycling. Councillor Telfer and I have talked to local residents about this issue, and as a consequence started this co-ordinated approach to the problem. I also know that the problem is not just confined to the Valley - it is city wide. I understand that about 25% of the phone calls the local Police receive is about this illegal motorcycling and that they take this issue seriously.’

The petition will be presented to Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Police next month.
