Sheffield Foyer residents visit Parliament with Meg Munn

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Sheffield Foyer residents visited Parliament last week, at the invitation of their MP, Meg Munn. The group visited as part of their citizenship training and education programme, helping them to learn more about the way the country is run.

Philip Satur, Sheffield Foyer Project Worker speaking after the trip said

"Our residents were impressed with the trip along Downing St and the tour around the Houses of Parliament. They were absolutely in wonder at the Queens robing room and couldnt believe that they were standing at the box that Tony Blair stands at. They want to thank Meg and her staff for organising the visit and the guide who gave them the guided tour because he took time and trouble to answer their questions which were many."

The Sheffield Foyer is a residential project for 16 - 25 year olds run by Northern Counties Housing Association. The Foyer provides training, education and job search advice to improve access to jobs for residents. Training is also given in life skills. The entire Foyer's work is carried out under one roof.

The Foyer also serves as a community resource in that it can provide training / conference rooms to local organisations and a caf? facility. The project is also available to offer local residents assistance when drawing up C.V's.
