Local MP Meg Munn joined local people and representatives from the NHS at a turf cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of building work on a new medical centre on Beldon Road, Norfolk Park.

The scheme has been commissioned by NHS Sheffield and will be organised by Community 1st Sheffield. The new centre will combine a range of medical services, including GP and nursing facilities, minor surgery and a pharmacy, whilst also providing a hub for the local community.

Meg says:

“I am delighted to see building work begin on the new medical centre. The regeneration of Norfolk Park is now nearly complete and it’s a first class place to live. A new health centre will mean local people can benefit from a wide range of modern facilities on their doorstep in the same way as residents in other parts of Sheffield.”

Tony Pedder, Chairman of NHS Sheffield, said:

“The build at Norfolk Park is part of a plan to develop four new medical centres in the city by 2013. The plans have been developed alongside local GPs, partners and members of the community with the aim of providing modern, high quality and sustainable services for the future of healthcare in Sheffield.”

All four projects are being carried out as part of the LIFT programme. As well as Norfolk Park, new medical centres will be developed in Bluebell (upper Wincobank), Darnall and Foxhill.
