University honours school students’ achievements

Wednesday, May 12, 2004

The achievements of Year 11 students from six local and regional schools were recognised by the University of Sheffield at the annual Achievements Award ceremony held at the Octagon Centre on 5th May. Approximately 300 students received certificates, with 750 parents, school staff and governors in attendance. Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, was the guest speaker.

The pupils began working toward their awards in Year 10 and over a two-year period have achieved their goals of 90% attendance, 95% punctuality, completion of GCSE coursework, a two week work experience placement, attendance at a post-16 event, a career planning interview, and keeping a record of their achievement in a progress file.

Meg commented: “I am delighted to attend this awards ceremony, and want to thank the University for its involvement in this programme. However, the most important people to thank are the pupils who have worked so hard to achieve their awards.”
