Celebrating ten years of the Terminus cafe

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Local MP Meg Munn was delighted to call in to the Terminus cafe in Lowedges during its week of celebrations to mark ten years since it first opened its doors.  The Terminus was set up by local churches to meet the need for a drop-in centre for older people and somewhere for young people to go. As well as serving light meals and drinks, the café doubles up as a charity shop. There is a weekly Youth Café, a Women’s Conversation Club for recent immigrants, and a ‘Knit and Natter’ group for older women.

Meg said:

“I’ve visited the project many times over the years, sometimes to find out about the latest new service or group and sometimes to have my lunch. There is always a warm welcome and it’s great to meet the volunteers. I know that over the years many people have begun volunteering at the Terminus and have used it as a stepping stone to other work.

I congratulate all those who have been involved in turning a rundown shop into a first class community resource. However like many other organisations at this time it is experiencing problems in finding funding for its activities. I urge local people to continue to support the project, and funders to look at all the good work it has achieved and to ensure it is still going strong in another ten years.”
